Timeline of the Parish

SEPTEMBER 1994 - Community forms.


APRIL 1995 - Fr. Gregory ordained and Community received into Orthodoxy.


JUNE 1996 - Clare Road property acquired.


OCTOBER 1996 - St. Aidan's Church consecrated by Metropolitan Gabriel.


FEBRUARY 1998 - Fr. Deacon John-Mark ordained to the diaconate.


2001 / 2002 - Significant growth in size and ethnic diversity of the community.


JANUARY 2002 - Visit of His Grace Bishop John Yazigi to St. Aidan's.


SEPTEMBER 2005 - Mission opens in Macclesfield dedicated to St. Theodore of Canterbury.  Mission closed in August 2011.


NOVEMBER 2005 - Parish Review in conjunction with the parish of All Saints of Lincolnshire, Lincoln.


OCTOBER 2007 - The repose of His Eminence Metropolitan Gabriel.


DECEMBER 2007 - The repose of Fr. Deacon John-Mark.


JUNE 2008 - The election of His Grace Bishop John Yazigi as Metropolitan of Western and Central Europe.


SEPTEMBER 2008 - The Enthronement of His Eminence, Metropolitan John, Archbishop in Western and Central Europe in Paris (20th / 21st).


FEBRUARY 2009 - Pastoral Visit of Metropolitan John.  Benedict Broomhead tonsured as a Reader and Peter Bateman ordained to the subdiaconate.


JULY 2009 - Parish attends Deanery Conference led by Metropolitan on the theme of "Liturgical Celebrations.  First year of the E-Quip course concludes.


DECEMBER 2009 - Fr. Gregory appointed Dean of the Antiochian Orthodox Deanery of the United Kingdom and Ireland after the retirement of Archpriest Michael Harper through ill health.


JANUARY 2010 - Archpriest Fr. Michael Harper reposes on the Feast of the Theophany.


FEBRUARY 2010 - Natalia Liepelt appointed as Choir Director in succession to Reader Benedict Broomhead who retires from this post after long and faithful service.


JUNE 2010 - Fr. Gregory made Archpriest by Metropolitan John in London.


MARCH 2010 - Fr. Deacon Christopher Neill joins the team at St. Aidan's.


APRIL 2010 - Subdeacon Emmanuel Kahn joins the team at St. Aidan's.


JULY 2011 - Natalie Marcelo (Liepelt) returns to Germany.  Alexander Rast appointed as Choir Director in her place.  First E-Quip Course concludes.


APRIL 2012 - Subdeacon Emmanuel ordained to the diaconate and Fr. Deacon Christopher ordained to the priesthood by His Eminence, Metropolitan John (Sunday 29th April).


FEBRUARY 2013 (10th) - His Eminence, Metropolitan John enthroned as Patriarch John X in Damascus.


OCTOBER 2013 - The Deanery becomes an Archdiocese.  We await our first Metropolitan Archbishop.


FEBRUARY 2014 - St. Aidan's makes plans for a mission in Crediton, Devon


AUGUST 2014 - The Mission of St. Boniface and St. Petroc, Crediton, is launched.


SEPTEMBER 2014 - The E-Quip Course begins its second local lecture cycle.


DECEMBER 2014 - Fr. Gregory assumes a new role as Priest in Charge of St. Ignatius, Belfast.  A priest in residence will be appointed in January 2015.


MAY 2015 - Fr. Deacon Emmanuel is ordained to the priesthood by His Eminence, Metropolitan Ignatios of France, Western and Southern Europe at the Church of St. Botolph, London, Saturday 9th May.  At the same service Fr. Christopher receives the Epignation to hear confessions.


JUNE 2015 - Archimandrite Silouan Oner is elected by the Holy Synod of Antioch to be our first resident Metropolitan Archbishop.


DECEMBER 2015 - Fr Christopher retires to live in Dundee, Scotland.


MARCH 2016 - His Eminence Metropolitan Silouan (our new bishop) visits the parish over the weekend of 5th and 6th March.  The visit concludes with a small pilgrimage to the shrine of St Chad, Chadkirk, Stockport.


OCTOBER 2016 - "Followers" - an Archdiocesan Catechetical Course for 3-18 year olds, designed and written by a St Aidan's Editorial team is launched.


OCTOBER 2016 - 20th Anniversary of the consecration of St Aidan's (20th October 1996) by His Grace, Bishop Gabriel (Saliby) of thrice blessed memory.


FEBRUARY 2017 - Alexander Rast, our Choir Master, who faithfully served this parish for over 10 years moved with his work to Southampton.  Monica Flynn takes over as Choir Director.


MARCH 2017 - His Eminence Metropolitan Silouan visits the parish over the weekend of 11th and 12th March.
